The current Governor of Lagos state, Akinwumi Ambode was born in June 14, 1963. He was formerly the Accountant-General of Lagos State during the Tinubu era. He is a Nigerian businessman who held other positions in Lagos.
Akinwumi Ambode became governor after defeating Jimi Agbaje of the PDP by more than 150,000 votes. In January 2005, Ambode was first made permanent secretary of the Ministry of Finance and by February 2006, Ambode was also appointed the accountant general for Lagos State. Under his watch, the State Treasury Office (STO) improved, as Lagos State finances were raised, managed and well planned.
He spent six years as the Lagos State accountant general and retired voluntarily after 27 years in the civil service on August 2012. He also founded Brandsmiths Consulting Limited that provides Public Finance and Management Consulting services to government at all levels, its parastatals and agencies.

Akinwunmi Ambode attended St. Jude’s Primary School, Ebutte Meta, Lagos, Nigeria, from 1969-1974, where he sat for the National Common Entrance Examinations. He also attended Federal Government College, Warri for his secondary education. At age 21, he attended University of Lagos where he studied Accounting, qualifying as a Chartered accountant. He also attended a host of foreign schools for management courses
Akinwumi Ambode got married to Bolanle Patience in 1991 and they have three children, two twin boys and a girl.
