This is the Biography and net worth of Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known by his stage name, D’banj. D’banj is a Nigerian singer-songwriter, musician, entrepreneur and TV host.
Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo was born on June 9, 1980 in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. He is widely known by his stage name D’banj. D’banj is the joining together of two of his names, Dapo and Oyebanjo. D’banj is also widely known as the Kokomaster or Bangalee by his fans all across Nigeria and South Africa.
D’banj was born to a military officer who was the commander of an artillery regiment and a devout church dignitary mother who is an indigene of Shagamu in Ogun State.
Because of his father’s job, D’banj he moved several times within Nigeria before moving to England later on. He was expected to follow in his father’s military footstep and was enrolled at the Nigerian Military School when he was 11.
He, however, resisted the system and disenrolled after three years.
From there he went to another military institution, Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ibara, Abeokuta where he completed his secondary school education.
D’banj uses a fusion of Afrobeat and Afropop to do his music.
In 2005, he released his debut album “No Long Thing,” under the Mo’Hits record, which was a success. It was used by then ruling party PDP to campaign for the 2007 elections.
In 2006 he released his second album titled Rundown Funk U Up, which was another hit. In 2007-2008 he released another album, “Curriculum Vitae and The Entertainer.”
In June 2011, D’banj was signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music record label and broke away from Mo’Hits shortly after then.
He is best known internationally for his 2012 summer hit “ Oliver Twist “, an uptempo dance fusion of Afrobeat and electronic dance music which topped the African charts 2011 and was a top 10 hit in the UK singles chart in 2012. In 2016 he was ranked the richest Nigerian solo musician by T.I.N Magazine.
D’banj has many awards under his belt, including the awards for Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009, Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards, and Best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards.
