Biography

Reekado Banks was born on December 6, 1993 into a music-loving family. Reekado Banks is the last child of his parents. His elder brother is a music producer and his elder sister is a gospel singer. His father is a pastor while his mother is a caterer and also a pastor. It is noteworthy to mention that Reekado Banks grew up in a disciplinarian environment as both his parents are ministers of God.

Reekado Banks graduated from secondary school at age 14. In 2008, Reekado Banks recorded his first songs, all of which were produced by his brother who taught him everything about singing, writing and producing.

He formed his stage name, Reekado Banks, by adding the meanings of two of his names; the former part of his stage name translates to “strong ruler”, while the latter part loosely translates to “wealth”.

He emerged Rookie of the Year at The Headies in 2014, and won the controversial Next Rated award at The Headies 2015.

Reekado Banks released his debut studio album, Spotlight, on September 1, 2016. The album debuted at number 10 on the Billboard World Album Music Chart.

Reekado Banks was signed to Mavin Records on February 21, 2014, the same day he premiered the single “Turn It Up,” featuring Tiwa Savage.

The song was released as his first official single under Mavin Records.

Endorsement

In July 2015, Nigerian telecommunications company Globacom signed Reekado Banks to an endorsement deal to become their brand ambassador.

Reekado Banks announced his departure from Mavins Record after 5 years of being signed in. On December 9th 2018, he launched his own record label “Banks Music” to move forward with his musical career.
